A Review of Semiconductor-Based Monolithic Optical Phased Array Architectures

Semiconductor-based monolithic optical phased arrays (OPA) enable beam-steering for lidar and 3D imaging, free-space communications, projection holographical displays, neural probes among many other possible applications. This paper provides a review of OPA operating principles, architectures, key building blocks, remaining research challenges.
